Brave Space Tools
TOOL1: PERSONAL CHECK-IN TOOL
This tool helps you pause before a difficult conversation or session and honestly assess where you are. Not where you think you should be — where you actually are. It takes two minutes and works best when you're alone and willing to be truthful with yourself.
TOOL 2: TEAM DIAGNOSTIC
This tool helps a team see which conditions for brave space are present — and which aren't. Each person fills it in individually, then you compare. The differences in your answers are often more useful than the scores themselves.
About these tools
These tools were created by Eva Becking (Buro Becking) and Gabriela Aguirrezabal (Better Social Design) as part of their talk Innovation needs Brave Space, presented for the first time at UXinsight Festival 2026 in Leiden.

They grew out of years of work in public sector innovation — facilitating difficult conversations, designing for friction, and learning, often the hard way, what actually helps teams stay in the discomfort long enough for something real to happen.

If you're curious about what brave space could look like in your organization — whether that's a team, a project, or a process — we'd love to hear from you.
